Glossary of CBD terms

  1. CBD (Cannabidiol) : Cannabidiol is one of the main chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. It is renowned for its potentially beneficial health properties, including its anxiolytic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, while generally not inducing psychotropic effects.
  2. Cannabis : A flowering plant of the Cannabaceae family. Cannabis is used for recreational, medicinal and industrial purposes. It contains various chemical compounds, including CBD and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
  3. THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) : Tetrahydrocannabinol is another major compound in cannabis. Unlike CBD, THC is psychoactive and responsible for the euphoric effects associated with cannabis consumption.
  4. Endocannabinoid system : A biological system found in humans and many other animals, composed of cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) and endogenous substances called endocannabinoids. This system regulates various physiological processes such as the regulation of pain, mood, appetite and sleep.
  5. CBD isolate : A pure form of CBD that has been isolated and extracted from other compounds in the cannabis plant. It does not contain THC or other cannabinoids or terpenes.
  6. Full spectrum : A CBD extract that contains not only CBD, but also a range of other cannabinoids, terpenes and beneficial compounds found naturally in the cannabis plant. It may also contain low amounts of THC, generally below legal limits.
  7. Broad spectrum : A CBD extract similar to full spectrum, but without THC. It still contains various cannabinoids and terpenes.
  8. CBD oil : An oil preparation that contains a concentration of CBD. It can be consumed sublingually, added to foods, or used in topical products.
  9. CBD product : Any product, whether oils, capsules, gummies, creams, lotions, or other forms, that contains CBD as an active ingredient.
  10. Bioavailability : The measurement of the amount of CBD that reaches the bloodstream after administration. Different delivery methods have varying bioavailability rates.
  11. Surround effect : The theory that the different compounds found in the cannabis plant (cannabinoids, terpenes, etc.) work synergistically to produce more powerful and beneficial effects when consumed together.
  12. Dosage : The amount of CBD present in a product and the quantity consumed. Dosage may vary depending on product concentration and individual needs.
  13. CBD legislation : Laws and regulations governing the legality of the production, sale and consumption of CBD products. Laws vary from country to country.
  14. Clinical test : A scientific study conducted on humans to evaluate the effects, effectiveness and safety of CBD in the treatment of various medical conditions.
  15. Side effects : Potential side effects associated with CBD consumption, such as drowsiness, drug interactions, nausea, etc.
